The Academy of Contemporary English is a body which seeks to improve the general use of English by providing an Internet reference and advisory service for members of the public. An Academy was launched publicly by the Queen's English Society in June 2010, but received some which led the QES to abandon the project. In September 2010 Martin Estinel set up "an Academy Board of fellow experts", running the Academy independently on a different website. Objectives According to its publications, the Academy aims to "record Best Practice in the use of modern English", "point out common errors", "campaign for more effective teaching of English" and for better English use in the media. It claims not to "tell people how they have to speak or write", "stand in the way of a natural evolution of the language", "police the language" or "freeze the language". Reception The Academy has not elicited any major objections or mainstream media coverage since its website was moved in September 2010.
