Abhishek Dutta

Abhishek Dutta is an Indian architect, who received a National Award for Excellence in Architectural Thesis from NIASA, the Council of Architecture India in 2006 for his thesis on "Transformable Multi-functional Residence". He is a Jadavpur University alumnus.
His works were showcased in NDTV Goodtimes Next Big Thing show. After his initial research with the Defence Terrain Research Laboratory of Defence Research and Development Organisation on strategic shelters, he started his practice with his classmate Susweta Dutta. He has been actively involved with the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), West Bengal chapter. He is the editor of the chapter. He has taught and lectured on architecture in Jadavpur University, Idea College of Architecture, Nashik, Amity University in Kolkata and other institutions.
In 2015, he received a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding contributions to IIA activities.
In 2015, Dutta was awarded the First Prize for Housing for Smart Cities Housing Innovation Challenge 2015 by Saint-Gobain. His thoughts and designs have been recognised and appreciated within the fraternity of Indian Architects and beyond. He is a founder partner of the Kolkata-based award-winning architectural studio, Arcon Design. Ar. Dutta has continued his research on sustainable habitat and affordable housing by means of semi-prefabrication and an innovative "functional package" of architectural spaces. In December 2016, he and his partner, Ar. Susweta Dutta have been nominated amongst the top 50 next generation Indian architects by Architects and Interiors India magazine.
Dutta believes in dialogue between academics and research with professional practices in design innovation. He is a very keen observer of design trends in alternative development and experimental architecture.
