Abdel Nasser Tawfik

Abdel Nasser Tawfik (Arabic: عبدالناصر توÙ?يق) (born June 1967 in Tahta, Sohag, Egypt) graduated from Assiut University in Egypt in 1989, where he also completed his Master Degree in Theoretical Physics, before moving to Philipps-Univertsität in Marburg, Germany. In 1999 he was awarded a Dr.rer.Nat (PhD) in high energy physics.

Tawfik has working at numerous universities and research institutions, including the Fraunhofer Society, German Space Agency, University of Marburg, University of Trier, University of Stuttgart and University of Bielefeld. He also joined Hiroshima University in Japan, and is currently working in the Centre for Theoretical Physics (CTP) at the British University in Egypt, and the Modern University for Technology and Innovation (MTI), also in Egypt.

Recent work
Over the past decade, Tawfik has published articles in newspapers and magazines on public issues, and given public lectures on science and its different impacts, in order to improve the rate and quality of development in Egypt.

To his scientific achievements, Tawfik has introduced and is conducting a new scientific school of thought in Egypt: numerical simulations on the lattice for the Quantum chromodynamics (QCD), the theory of strong interactions. For these techniques, one need powerful computing facilities and effective numerical algorithms. The results obtained out of these simulations have had an impact on our understanding of matter under extreme conditions, the phase transitions and the development of the universe.
