Aamoo the Aam is a bilingual Children's book written by Riya Verma.
Aamoo the Aam is a bilingual book written in Hindi and English. It is written for learning and practicing Hindi as a second language. It was written by Riya Verma in 2008. It is published by Chanda Books It forms the first book in a series of three Aamoo related books, the Part II and Part III of the book dealing with subsequent stories of Aamoo. Each of the books is released solely as paperback, as they were only 40 pages long. This book is used to reinforce vocabulary and as a source of comprehensible input in Hindi. This collection of short stories may be used in basic Hindi classrooms because it is written using simple words and phrases to aid comprehension. It also is useful for children to read and follow aloing on their own.
In the nature of bilingual books, the book narrates all of the story in Hindi as well as English. The book introduces a sentence in Hindi, and then provides a transliteration of the text in English. This is followed by an English translation of the text.
Using the approach of Hindi text, English transliteration and English translation allows the book to be followed by anyone anyone conversant in English who wants to learn Hindi.
Plot summary
The book consists of three short stories, each of which is geared more towards introduction of new vocabulary than a specific plot. The first story, Aamoo the Aaam, introduces the character of Aamoo and introduces a few basic words of Hindi. The second story, Aamoo and Colors, introduces several of Aamoo's friends. However, the main reason for introducing the friends is to introduce different colors to which each of the friend belongs. The third story, Aamoo and Counting introduces the numbers in Hindi.
Characters
The main character in the book is Aamoo the Aam, which literally translates to Aamoo the Mango. Aam is the Hindi word for mango.
