5TA were a mid 1980s pop trio consisting of Lance Jowers (Vocals) Michael Moran (Guitar, bass, Fairlight) and Nick Rhodes (Drums and percussion.) They released one single, Angel, on their own Torch Productions label in 1983 before signing to Arista the following year. A ‘taster’ 12”, Reckless, produced by the band was distributed to college radio DJs in the US before the band’s first major label single Heaven was released in early 1985 on Channel 4’s The Tube to promote the record alongside B.A.D and INXS but the single failed to chart. A follow-up, My Brilliant Career, despite a prestigious John Peel session, yielded similarly lacklustre results. The band toured, as support to It Bites, to promote the record with backing group that included singer Julia Fordham. A projected album, entitled A Kind Of Triumph with former 5TA backing vocalist Angie Giles, signing to Island Records in 1991.
