56th Special Warfare Squadron

Introduction
Seoul has, in the last thirty years, built one of the world’s most capable, and experienced naval special warfare capabilities.
Highly Disciplined, well trained warriors that are experts in land, sea and air combat. The roles and responsibilities of the 56th Special Warfare Squadron is predominantly focused on, but not restricted to maritime operations whether it is sea, rivers, lakes or inland waterways. Although it is speculated that the ROKN SEALs would also undertake a defencive role by undertaking clandestine "stay behind" offensive actions against the North.
Organisation & Structure
Augmenting the South Korean naval special warfare capabilities are the Navy’s three SEAL teams. Each team, consisting of some fifty operators, is divided into three SEAL teams:
SEAL Team One
“Conventional” special warfare tasks, such as intelligence gathering, raids, covert insertion, beach reconnaissance and underwater demolition
SEAL Team Two
“Conventional” special warfare tasks, such as intelligence gathering, raids, covert insertion, beach reconnaissance and underwater demolition
SEAL Team Three
Maritime counter-terrorist and hostage rescue force similar to the US Navy’s DEVGRU
Selection & Training
ROK SEAL selection and training is almost identicle to that of their US Navy counter-parts, the Basic Underwater Demolition School where students go through arduous physical and mental exercises that test cadidates resolve.
