4 Rue du Lac Flats Fire

The 4 Rue du Lac Flats Fire was a fire that occurred at a nine-storey hostel in Dijon, France on November 14, 2010.

* The fire started at 0030 GMT
* More than 130 people were evacuated from the building
* The insulation of the building assisted the spread of the fire while also generating large amounts of smoke.
* Several children received medical treatment after the fire
* 3/93 of the firefighters who arrived on the scene suffered from smoke inhalation

Causes and background
* The fire started in a rubbish bin in an adjacent building from where it spread to the side of the hostel.
* The winds at the time also helped the fire to spread faster than it would normally do, they were blowing the flames against the wall of the building
Casualties
* 7 people lost their lives. 1 of which died after trying to escape the fire by jumping from the building's 7th floor while the rest died due to smoke inhalation. 4/7 were immigrants.
