27th Special Operations Maintenance Squadron

The 27th Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron accomplishes global special operations taskings as an Air Force component member of United States Special Operations Command; Organizes, trains and equips 617 personnel to generate AC-130H, MC-130W, CV-22, MQ-1 and MQ-9 aircraft; Deploys worldwide to provide theater commanders with aircraft for close air support, interdiction, armed escort, reconnaissance, intelligence, surveillance, overt and covert infiltration, resupply, exfiltration, helicopter air refueling and psychological operations.
Lineage
Constituted as the 27th Periodic Maintenance Squadron on June 4, 1952. Activated on June 16, 1952. Inactivated on Sept. 25, 1957. Redesignated as the 27th Organizational Maintenance Squadron, and activated on Sept. 20, 1962. Organized on Oct1, 1962. Discontinued and inactivated on Nov. 1, 1966. Activated on Dec. 15, 1971. Redesignated as the 27th Aircraft Generation Squadron on April 1, 1978. Inactivated on Nov. 1, 1991. Redesignated as the 27th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron on June 28, 2002. Activated on Sept. 27, 2002. Redesignated as the 27th Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron on Oct. 1, 2007.
