2025 Trident Aviation DHC-5 crash

On 22 March 2025, a Kenyan registered De Havilland Canada DHC-5D Buffalo cargo plane operated by Trident Aviation crashed in Ceel Xabaaloow, southwest of Mogadishu, Somalia. All five Kenyan crew members were killed in the accident.

Crew
All five crew were identified as Kenyan nationals. The crew consisted of pilot Mohammed Abdul Noor, co-pilot Ishaq Abdul Noor, aerospace engineer Abdulrahman Abdul Noor, a cargo manager and another Kenyan. Mohammed Abdul Noor worked at Bluebird Aviation for around five years and Skyward Express before flying for Trident Aviation again in 2024. His family owned Trident Aviation. The plane experienced a technical failure and lost contact with air traffic control after takeoff from runway 05 at Dhobley Airport at approximately 5:43 pm local time. The wreckage was discovered fifteen minutes after the crash in a sandy area near the sea by a National Intelligence and Security Agency emergency team plane in Ceel Xabaaloow near the Jasiira settlement beach in Mogadishu. Their bodies were recovered and transferred to Mogadishu before being sent to Kenya for burial. On 24 March the SCAA director Ahmed Macalin Hassan told BBC News that the aircraft reported an engine failure just before crashing on approach to Mogadishu.
Aftermath
Local government agencies, emergency services, and partners are conducting search and rescue operations at the crash site and have begun preliminary investigations to determine the cause of the crash. The SCAA stated that they have started an investigation on the accident, and that further and new information will be provided as it becomes available in the following days. The investigation is expected to take a maximum of a year but is expected to produce a preliminary report soon.<ref name=":BBC Somali" />
