2022 Newport City Council election

Elections to Newport City Council will take place in May 2022, along with elections to the other 21 local authorities in Wales, community council elections in Wales and United Kingdom local elections, 2022. The election will be unusual, in that this will be the first Welsh Local Government election taking place under the full policy of five year terms. Until now the terms of Councils across Wales were extended to prevent clashes with UK General Elections and other events but minister Mark Drakeford announced in 2016 this will be the regular length of terms, starting first with the 2022 election. Councillors elected in this election serve a five-year term. The previous election took place on 3 May 2017. The next full election will take place in May 2027. |
