2022 Glen Waverley Suicide

On August 19, 2022, a man committed suicide in Melbourne's Glen Waverley suburb, by jumping off a multi-story carpark where he was last seen and onto the street, prompting a nearby school to enter lockdown. Suicide At approximately 10:AM Australian Eastern Standard Time, a man entered a multi-story carpark where was last seen. He leaped off the building within the next 20 minutes, and emergency services were called to the scene at about 10:20 and soon discovered the body which was not immediately attributed to be a suicide, students from a nearby high school were in recess and some witnessed the suicide as it happened prompting a school-wide lockdown. Lockdown A nearby high school, Glen Waverley Secondary College was located on the same street as the scene of the suicide and thus students were able to see the incident, the school was put into lockdown in the middle of recess. Students heard the alarm, panicked and ran into nearby classrooms, one Year 8 student recalled dashing into a food-tech classroom with several other random students and pulling knives from the countertops to defend themselves in fear that a mass shooting or similar event was occurring.
