The 2022 Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event to be organised by the Commonwealth Games Federation if the frequency and organizing systems is the same as in the past years. The host venue has yet to be decided. Potential bids Europe Cardiff, Wales. On 19 October 2009, it was announced that the Welsh capital, Cardiff, was considering a bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The majority of events would take place in Cardiff with some events held in nearby Swansea and Newport. The last Commonwealth Games was held back in 1958 and since then sporting in Cardiff has rapidly exceeded with the recently built Millennium Stadium, Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff International Pool, SWALEC Stadium, Cardiff International Sports Stadium and Cardiff International White Water, a world-class white water facility opening in April 2010. Indeed, over the years Cardiff has become a key sporting area in the UK and in 2009 was awarded the title European City of Sport. In addition, Cardiff has held many internation and regional sporting events including the first England v Australia Test Match of the 2009 Ashes series, six F.A Cup finals, three Rugby Football League Challenge Cup finals, four Heineken Cup finals, one European Challenge Cup final and was a major part in the 1999 Rugby World Cup inculding the finals host. In addition, there are new plans for a new Cardiff International Sports Village situated in Cardiff Bay which is going to be used as training for the London 2012 Olympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics. Already the Cardiff International Pool, Cardiff International Sports Stadium and Cardiff International White Water are completed and attract international sporting respect. During the leading up to the London 2012 Olympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics, Cardiff has become a favourite site from traing before the games and many countries have considered using Cardiff's newly built training facilities.
