2021 Arizona Swearingen SA226-T(B) Merlin IIIB crash

On 23 April 2021, a crashed near Winslow, Arizona. Two occupants died. One of the victims was former IMSA and IndyCar racer Bill Whittington. According to acquaintances contacted by Autoweek, Whittington owned the aircraft and was the pilot on the accident flight.
Accident
A , registration N59EZ, was destroyed when it impacted the terrain under unknown circumstances near Winslow, Arizona.
According to his friend Randy Lanier when contacted by Autoweek, Whittington was giving a plane ride to an unidentified friend who "was terminally ill with cancer and had lost his pilot's license," and Whittington "wanted to give him an experience of flying again."
Investigation
FlightAware shows the flight pattern of the plane taking off from Scottsdale, and flying northeast to near Winslow when it crashed just north of Interstate 40 on a desert road in Navajo County, Arizona.
