The 2011 Yuma shooting was a series of shootings that took place in the US city of Yuma, Arizona, on June 2, 2011. It began on the 400 Block of Second Avenue at about 9:21 AM. At least six people were killed and one person injured. Among the dead were Jerrold Shelley and the shooter, 73-year-old Carey Hal Dyess, who took his own life. Shelley, an attorney, had represented Dyess's ex-wife in their divorce proceedings. The lawyer was killed while packing up his office on his last day of work. It was believed that the gun used in the shooting was a pistol. Local schools and the county courthouse were shut down during the incident.
