2009 David Schuster World Trade Center Segments
|
The 2009 Schuster World Trade Center Segments is a continuing segment series on MSNBCs 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue hosted by David Schuster. The segment aired initially on January 26th 2009 and airs to the date of this writing. 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue The show itself discusses issues relevant to contemporary American and international politics and to the show’s name issues related to the presidency of Barak Obama and ‘White House politics’. David Schuster also decided to focus a segment of his show on another critical issue in the United States and international affairs: the current status of redevelopment at the World Trade Center site in New York City and the popular idea of rebuilding the Twin Towers instead of the current PANYNJ (Port Authority) design. As of this writing, the show has invited guests from all points of the discussion including supporters of new Twin Towers, Twin Towers II co-founder Kenneth Gardner, current Port Authority plan representatives, Tom Brokaw, past Governor George Pataki, and others. National discussion of rebuilding and the Twin Towers The segment series has through MSNBC’s viewer base created a national if not international nightly discussion of the current status of redevelopment at the WTC site and of the support for and reasons to rebuild the Twin Towers in New York City. David Schuster himself commented on the lack of needed discussion on the topic over the years. The ‘1600’ poll on new Twin Towers versus the current plan David Schuster invited viewers to make their voices heard on a poll hosted by Newsvine. The preface from the poll website: ”It's a special series we are starting on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. on MSNBC. We are going to take a closer look at Ground Zero, the place in lower Manhattan where the Twin Towers crashed to the ground. Seven years after the terrorist attacks, virtually no progress has been made in rebuilding the site and putting up the Freedom Tower. Bureaucratic bungling, the design flaws, the lack of planning, the engineering mistakes are contributing to the ongoing delays. An intriguing option involves a very smart and sophisticated set of designs to rebuild the Twin Towers. Would it reclaim something that I think has been lost since 9/11, the idea that we don't let terrorists dictate our way of life or the look of our cities and towns?” The poll presents two options based on the above preface: *Yes, it's a bolder message to send terrorists if NYC rebuilds the towers *No, plans are already underway for the Freedom Tower POLL UPDATE As of 23:29 EST on February 3rd, 2009; the poll shows 752 votes in favor of rebuilding the Twin Towers as opposed to 92 votes to retain the current plan; a common statistical ratio in new Twin Towers-related polls since 2003.
