The Semi-Final fights Were as follows
Nokihero Vs. Damien. Damien wins third in the third round, by knockout
"the fight started off strong, but nokihero's cardio failed him half way through the second round, it was all down hill from there, we plan to come back from this stronger then ever, and remain gracious in defeat"
-Ace Richardson, Nokiheros Head trainer.
Hennig Vs. Davis. Hennig wins in the first round, by armbar submission
"my muay thai is strong, but his is stonger, i knew if i was gonna win it would have to be on the ground. I stuck to the game plan and went straight for the takedown, i dont think he expected me to grapple with him, and i think he was more suprised at my jiu jitzu. It wasnt hard to force a tapp once i got controll of the fight."
- Seth 'Headkick' Hennig, at the post fight interview
The stage was set for the final bout
Seth 'Headkick' Hennig vs. Lars Damien
Damien came out strong in the first round, looking for a highlight reel finish, they exchanged blows several times, then it ended up on the ground, Hennig got the takedown and ended up in Damiens full guard, neary loosing the fight by a triange choke. Hennig was able to get out of the choke, shortly before the round ended. It was all smiles on Damiens face going into the second round, having clearly won the first. But the second round would tell a different story, after taking two devastating head kicks from Henig, Damien was starting to look a little wobbly, the round would end with no ground action, and a no more smile on Damiens face. The third round came and went in just over 40 seconds, Hennig came out with a smile on his face, and Destroyed Damien with strikes, Damiens first attempts to perry the blows were a good effort, but without any cause. After landing several well timed strikes to the head, Hennig finished with a flurry of punches, and came out victorious, with a Knockout victory.
Damien Had this to say about the defeat.
"Looking back at my training camp, and all the work me and my coaches put into this tounrnament, its a real shame to walk away without the title, but im gonna come back stronger than ever, and maybe in a few years i'll look for the rematch, thank you."
16 year old champion Seth Hennig declined to be interviewed, but he had tears in his eyes during the victory announcement. Shortly after the tournament fight doctor Herb Mcmahonn announced that due to a recurring shouder injury, Seth would not be permitted to fight in the tournoment scheduled for 2010. Reporters caught up with Seth the next day.
"ya im bummed out that i wont be able to fight, but my main concern is for my own health and saftey right now, im gonna miss the competiton, but i have to take time for the full recovery of my shoulder. There's often a choice fighters have to make, is risking permenant damage worth a few more fights, and my anwser to that is no. if i recover fully, i will be back to fight another day."
-Seth 'Headkick' Hennig.
The 2010 tournament is still planned to be underway, venue and fight cards have not yet been released.
