The 156th Army Band was reorganized on November 19, 1976 in Bossier City, LA. Following an extensive recruiting drive, the band increased its strength to a total of 23 personnel. The mission of the 156th Army Band is to provide musical support to the units of, and the communities served by, the Louisiana Army National Guard Many of the members of the band are themselves band directors or Music Education students studying toward that goal. In addition, several previous band members have moved on to full-time, professional music performance careers. As soldiers, the members of the 156th Army Band frequently distinguish themselves at military leadership schools and at physical and marksmanship competitions. The band deployed to Iraq is support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in 2010. This was their first overseas deployment since they reorganized in 1976.
