1 The Count Of Monte Cristo - Musical by James Behr

The Count of Monte Cristo - Musical by James Behr is a new musical adapted from the epic Alexander Dumas classic music & book by James Behr

The Count of Monte Cristo, book and music by James Behr has received fine reviews and won the prize for Best Musical Score at the 2010 New York West Village Musical Theater Festival. The script and a fully orchestrated recording were completed in early 2010. According to writer James Behr, "The musical is a response to the desires of millions yearning for Broadway to return to the Golden Era of wonderful music, drama, dance and humor."

Behr's version of Monte Cristo has garnished much attention as the premier setting of Alexander Dumas' classic tale, a style that is at once beautiful, thrilling, sophisticated and charming; it therefore stands out among other recent attempts at musicalizing Monte Cristo. Behr stays true to Dumas' story and intent, unlike other take-offs of the classic. This version avoids the generic "rock" style of current musicals while at the same time remaining vibrant, exciting and modern in the great tradition of Broadway musicals from Westside Story to Phantom of the Opera to Le Miserables.

Mr. Behr is critically acclaimed by the press, having been hailed by The Boston Globe and numerous newspapers for his accomplishments as a composer and concert pianist. A Juilliard graduate and resident of New York, he has performed as both soloist and composer nationally and has recorded extensively under the GEM label for orchestra, piano, Blue-Age, R&B, and fusion Rock/Classical.

Behr's version of The Count of Monte Cristo is now under development for full production worldwide. For further information and to listen music from the musical, visit www.countofmontecristo.info.
