Uberveillance

Uberveillance or uber surveillance is an omnipresent electronic surveillance facilitated by technology that makes it possible to embed surveillance devices in the human body, such as via . It is an extreme always-on surveillance, similar to sousveillance in the sense that it is on or in the human body, but similar to surveillance in the sense that it is controlled by a higher authority, not by the person bearing the technology. The main difference between uberveillance (ubersurveillance) and sousveillance is the existentiality axis, as defined in Leonardo 36(1), 2003, pp19-26. The term uberveillance was first coined by M.G. Michael (from the University of Wollongong’s Faculty of Informatics, NSW, Australia), in a guest lecture he delivered in 2006 on the “Consequences of Innovation”.
