Team Selene is a group of Chinese and German engineers and technicians who are intent upon winning the Google Lunar X Prize. Led by German-born inventor Markus Bindhammer in Shanghai, the Team Selene plans to launch the Selena 1 lander containing its LuRoCa 1 (Lunar Rocket Car 1) rover atop a Chinese rocket or American booster. The rover will be powered by solid fuel, liquid fuel or compressed gas. The rover can be transformed into a surface-to-surface missile using a simple adjustable inclined ramp. Or it can be driven over the lunar surface as a conventional rocket-powered car. The mode of travel will be determined by the actual conditions at the lunar landing site including any topographic challenges or obstacles present on site.
