Zukhits

Jacob Paul Buchanan (born February 19, 1983 in Crown Heights, Brooklyn), better known as “Zukhits“, is an American record producer, songwriter, and engineer. Founder and CEO of both Fatboy Hits Music Group and Big Sound Music LLC.

Early Career

At the age of 15, Buchanan began producing after buying a Boss DR-5 from a childhood friend. He perceived music as a universal language not looking to any particular source for inspiration. He listened to a wide range of music and studied the cultures behind them in order to understand its foundation and discern how his own flair could enhance its quality.

Almost a year later, two tracks that he produced were bought by Tommy Boy Records and mixed by notable engineer Joe Quinde. Thereafter, he upgraded his equipment and rounded out his musical talents by teaching himself the keyboard, learning transitions, chords, sequencing, and arranging. Buchanan continued to musically evolve and briefly attended college at Farmingdale State University in 2001. He left after speaking with a guidance counselor that advised him to leave school to continue his music career, considering how he thought outside the box. He focused on his production career full-time from that point onward.

Always eager to improve and fine-tune his music and production skills. He had the opportunity to personally observe Hernan Santiago who has worked with music industry giants including Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, and Ice-T.

In 2002, his diligence and dedication led to him being a featured producer on the independently released album, Kingz Kounty. The album featured artists such as Jay-Z, Rass Kass, M.O.P., Hoodfellas of Bad Boy Records, and Celsius to name a few. Zukhits produced seven tracks including a popular track entitled “Take Me Papi”. His production was accompanied by other talented producers such as DJ Premier. “Zukhits wide-ranging beats carr Kingz Kounty…”, he was dubbed as the 2002 Swizz Beatz, and a columnist from the LA Times referred to his production as “wicked”.

Following Kingz Kounty’s success, Zukhits persistently developed his musical repertoire. In addition to producing and engineering, he continued to write songs, compose, and arrange. His burgeoning notoriety led to him producing many independent projects and self-financing his unreleased album, Brainstorm.
