Zena Von Heppinstall

Zena Von Heppinstall is the lead singer from The Mercy Seat, a gospel-punk band in the late 80s featuring Gordon Gano on guitar (best known as the lead singer/guitarist from the Violent Femmes), Fernando Menendez on drums and Patrice Moran on bass. They toured internationally for two years and released one album in 1987 on Warner Music Group's Slash Records.
She is said to be "the major creative force", and according to Mark W. B. Allender from All Music Guide, she carried the music "with her fabulous voice". On an album full of gospel/punk tunes, a unique genre of music, Heppinstall wrote the Spanish-style track "Mother Talking", and she also played bass on the number. The album was re-released digitally in 2009.
