Yulia Zdanovska (Kharkiv, Ukraine, 2001 - Kharkiv, 8 March 2022) was an Ukrainian mathematician killed during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Early life Yulia studied at the Physics and Mathematics Lyceum of the Taras Shevchenko National University. She won a silver medal at the 2017 European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad, then graduated in mathematics and informatics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. She was a volunteer at Teach for Ukraine. Death She was killed in a bombing in Kharkiv. becoming the fourth volunteer to be killed since the beginning of the invasion. Her death became well known among the mathematical community. The Brazilian Mathematical Society posted a note, and Terence Tao wrote about her death. |
