Youtea

YouTea! is a startup women's health company.
Background
YouTea! was founded in October 2008 by Alex Herzlinger and Tina Wu. The company is developing proprietary functional beverages for women's health. Alex and Tina led YouTea! to the Finals of the Harvard Business School Business plan competition. YouTea! won the Products and Services Track for the .
Business plan contest observers noted that YouTea!'s product met an unmet consumer need. Critics contended that the retail and consumer products businesses can be particularly difficult during an economic downturn, particularly for a small start-up. Other critics claimed that the name "YouTea!" can be confused with the University of Texas. At the competition, YouTea!'s initial product will focus on promoting urinary health and preventing urinary tract infections. Critics contended, however, that urinary tract infections are too small a market for a start up business to survive, and that YouTea! can be crushed by well-funded competitors. Some felt that YouTea! should offer a portfolio of women's health beverages, not just one single product. One business plan observer noted that "the product is interesting because it appeals to many different clinicians, like urologists, primary care physicians, Obstetrics and gynaecology doctors, and Nurse Practitioners - but how is a start up going to market to all of those physician groups?"
