Yemane Gebre Loul was an alderman of a Christian parish in Saudi Arabia, and Prisoner of the Month of the International Society for Human Rights in June 2005. He is an Eritrean employed as a private driver, and ismarried with eight children.
One week after arresting 40 Pakistani Christians, Saudi Arabia's Muttawa (religious police) broke into a private worship service of expatriate Christians, arresting five elders from the congregation of 60 Ethiopian and Eritrean Christians who had gathered for prayer in Riyadh's central Al-Olaya district and declared that such gatherings were “forbidden” in Saudi Arabia. High-ranking Muslim sheiks reportedly took part in the April 29 raid. Yemane Gebre Loul, who was hosting the assembly in his rented house, was arrested with four other men; he was the only married man of the five.
