Yannick Pouliot (born 1963) is a computational biologist focused on developing biocomputational software systems to help understand protein, genetic and chemical data using machine learning and databasing approaches. He also holds interests in open source data mining of unstructured data, particularly with respect to expertise finding, and the application of computational biology to problems of national security. Early life Born in Paris, France from Canadian parents, Dr. Pouliot was raised in Montreal, Canada. He developed an early interest in computer science and biology, an unusual combination at the time because of the apparent division between these disciplines. Toward the end of his PhD, the launch of the Human Genome Project convinced him that computational biology (as it eventually became known) was about to become a crucial part of biological research henceforth. After postdoctoral studies at Genethon, one of the earliest large-scale genome laboratories in Paris, France, Pouliot emigrated to the United States to work in the biotechnology industry. Pouliot became a naturalized citizen in 2006. Career Pouliot's career has alternated between start-up biopharmaceutical companies such as Sequana Therapeutics and Kalypsys Inc., life sciences software vendors (Molecular Simulations (now Accelrys), DoubleTwist Inc., Penguin Computing), research organizations such as SRI International and the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and academic institutions such as Stanford University, where he was the Lane Medical Library's first Bioresearch Informationist. Currently, he is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of ResearchScorecard Inc., an analytics company focused on characterizing and quantifying scientific expertise. Education Yannick holds a PhD in Biology from McGill University, and an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix.
