Yang Tsin Su

Yang Tsin Su (YTS) is a martial art and philosophy of Chinese origin.
Yang Tsin Su, in summary, means: "The Art of Self Cultivation". It involves both physical and mental training through exercise, study and development of concentration. Yang Tsin Su is unified with the medical theory known as Synergetic Medicine. Students also practise the Yang Tsin Su meditation which is said to support the physical training with energy cultivation, clarity of mind and evolution of good health.
Yang Tsin Su was created by Dr L. Lee as a method of Martial Art training from many varying styles of martial arts. YTS incorporates both internal (also known in Martial Art terminology as Neijia) and external methods, with applications of soft, hard and erratic martial art techniques. The Yang Tsin Su creation is in view of saving time and effort to achieve a result that numerous other styles would achieve collectively. This means a practitioner would need to train in so many styles to reach the similar outcome of YTS.
History
The founder of YTS is Dr L. Lee. He created Yang Tsin Su, along with his late father. Some of the styles include but are not limited to: Tai Tui, Long Fist (Changquan) Shaolin, Southern Fists, Bagua, Chen style to Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan, plus many others styles of martial arts.
Etymology
"Yang Tsin Su" is a Chinese phonetic transcription. It can be translated as the art of self-cultivation in English and is abbreviated as YTS. Yang translates as cultivation. Tsin translates as truth, real, essence, origin or genuine. Su translates as art. Therefore YTS is the art of self-cultivation.
Foundation
Yang Tsin Su can be induced into the following three core parts:
# The philosophical theory of YTS.
# The medical theory of YTS.
# The practice of YTS.
There are many different forms which are taught in a class format, by instructors who have reached at least a Level 6 grade. Gradings take place once per year and are performed with either the Master or the most senior Instructor available at the location.
Philosophy
There is a strong relationship with a book: The Book of Twenty Words , written by Dr. L. Lee. This book refers to many virtues of both introversion and extroversion. The students self-development is performed through the nature of analysing the strengths and weaknesses of each virtue relevant to the area of development being focussed on by the student.
Other books are referenced, including: "Unification of Western Medicine & Traditional Chinese Medicine" and the "Yang Tsin Su Handbook - Volume 1" both authored by Dr. L. Lee.
Practise
The Students are subject to a comprehensive synergy of a number of different types of training, from both eastern and western cultures. The physical training encompasses a number of different exercises which are performed in sequences, named Forms. Each Form has its own purpose. See: the ' section below for detail. There are Fist Arts Forms and Weaponry Forms. Another integral part of the YTS Practise for the student is the YTS Meditation.
Energy
YTS students cultivate their own energy through constant practise of YTS Meditation and the physical training of the forms.
Forms
A Form is a sequence of exercises performed in a specific order to create a whole set. It is a common name used in Martial Arts for a sequence of exercises which are not a warm up, but the main moves all linked together.
YTS has a variety of forms, ranging from Soft Style through Erratic to Hard Styles.
; Woo Tsin Chuan"- YTS Chuan Soft Style
: Specifically for energy training, posture correction and stress reduction. All the movements are slow, flowing and graceful. This form is designed to relax the student and improve coordination, while maintaining alignment. As a result, internal energy is then cultivated. The Soft Style is commonly performed by elderly people and people who have less energy, although typically fit and healthy people also practise it for the maintenance of their health.
; Shin Tsin Chuan"- YTS Chuan Erratic Style
: Students use this form to develop and maintain flexibility. They also keep their body light and nimble, as this form consists of a blend of slow and fast movements. Grace and explosive power are demonstrated and students who continue to practise this form typically create a toned and agile body with a strong Cardiovascular system.
; Tsun Tsin Chuan"- YTS Chuan Hard Style
: Students use this Hard Style for building and maintaining strength and stamina. This style consists of only fast and powerful movements which are used to develop the martial power required in obtaining true martial skills. A high level of fitness and the skill of defence are achieved from practising this style. Students who train this style report they improve their strength, speed and skill.
Weaponry training
There is a wide variety of weaponry training practised in martial arts. YTS focuses on mainly Sword, Staff and Spear.
Grading system
Gradings occur once per year. Students earn badges. These badges show the information of the forms, grades and years.
Each Grade is associated with a colour that represents a numerical grading. They are:
