XML Copy Editor

XML Copy Editor is a text editor (computer program) for creating and editing text documents in XML
(Extensible Markup Language). XML defines a set of rules for describing documents in a human- and machine-readable format, and is widely used in traditional and web publishing.
"Copy" is a publishing technical term for the text content of a publication, and is not related to the conventional sense of copying.
XML Copy Editor can create and edit documents in any XML markup language such as TEI, DocBook, XHTML, DITA, WordprocessingML, and hundreds of others. It can validate according the DTD, XML Schema, or RELAX NG standards.
Editing features include side-panes for inserting new elements and entities; keystroke control for editing ; syntax highlighting to distinguish markup from text content; spelling and style checking;
folding and wrapping of long lines; completion of tag names and locking of tags.
Document management features include XSLT (1.0) transformation of documents to other formats; an XPath evaluator for navigation; "pretty-printing" using hierarchical indentation; and, on Windows only, lossless import/export of Microsoft Word documents.
XML Copy Editor is free software released under the GNU General Public License.
