Wytheville hostage incident

The Wytheville hostage incident took place on December 23, 2009. It was a crisis in Wytheville, Virginia, U.S., during which three people were taken hostage at the town post office, allegedly by a man in a wheelchair claiming to be carrying explosives. Police immediately cordoned off the scene, and advised evacuation of the surrounding area. According to the mayor of Wytheville, shots had been fired but there were no injuries. The incident ended peacefully after negotiators succeeded in persuading the man, Warren Taylor, to give up his hostages and give himself up. "We're just grateful it ended peacefully. This is just the best outcome we could hope for," said Sgt. Micheal Conroy of the local police. Despite claims of explosives, police found none in the post office, or on Taylor himself.
