World Gem Society

Started in June 1984, the World Gem Society is made up of Gem stone enthusiasts from across the world. The WGS Main office is in Manchester, England.
Monthly meetings are held in various locations throughout the world. The documentary "Fine Gems of the Royal Families of Europe and Asia" came about after a close collaboration between the World Gem Society and film makers from various universities across Europe. All proceeds were donated to the Princess Diana HIV/ Aids awareness charities.
Distinguished members
The WGS currently maintains a robust membership of 2,345 members. Those of note include HRH Prince of Wales Charles Windsor (England) Pope John Paul (Vatican City) Anthony G Perkins (Sweden) Levar Burton (USA) Sir Frederick R. Chamberlain PHD (England) Philip Mangress III (France), Ruth Bader Ginsberg (USA) Iange K Cjianje(South Africa)
This group has strong philanthropic roots, their monumental efforts at fund raising for those less fortunate have been well noted.
Each year members are invited to tour various gemological sites, or collections of interest. In 2014 a trip to Australia is planned, culminating with a fabulous concert at the Sydney Opera House featuring "The Three Tenors".
Membership is by invitation only as of 1988.
