Wolfenoot

Wolfenoot (pronounced wolf-uh-noot), November 23, celebrates people who are kind to dogs. It is a new holiday invented by a seven-year-old boy from Hamilton, New Zealand. After the idea was posted by his mother online, it went viral, and the official Facebook group has thousands of followers from all over the world, including the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, various European countries, Norway, Dubai and Japan. Because it is a new and evolving holiday, an official website has been created to explain and answer questions. The official holiday greeting is "Have a howly Wolfenoot".
Celebration
The holiday is celebrated primarily through showing kindness to dogs and other animals as well as eating roast meats and moon-shaped cakes. However, the menu is open, and vegetarians are free to adapt it. The original Facebook post outlining the holiday was:
The date was chosen because it is the anniversary of "The Great Wolf’s Death".<ref name=":1" /> However, the date does not appear to have had any true significance prior to the invention of the holiday.
Social impact
In addition to giving gifts to dog lovers, the holiday is open to donating to local animal shelters and other canine-related charities. For dog related businesses wishing to hold holiday events, the creator encourages them to work in conjunction with local canine-related charities.<ref name=":0" />
Because of the huge popularity of the new holiday, the Wolfenoot community was interested in holiday merchandise. A “Wolfenoot Shirt Design” contest was created, and the winner of the contest was able to select the charity that benefits from the proceeds of the merchandise sales.<ref name":2" /> Wolf Park, a research and education facility in Battle Ground, Indiana, was selected, and it received its first donations from the sale of Wolfenoot merchandise in mid-October 2018.<ref name":0" /> All proceeds from the merchandise sales are donated.
