Why riding hood might cry is a novel written by Hieu Vo, based on their trainwrecks of love in middle school life. It focuses on advice and how things would go wrong. Although the book does not give advice how to lead your life, is shows what possible situations there are, to repvent it.

Main Focus

The whole idea of the book is to show how love can be created and how it can be ruined. Hieu Vo, is a 13 year old boy who carefully observes the ups and downs of a relationship. He observes what the boy does wrong and what the girl should have done. He does not create a way to lead the life of romance but instead to show you possible ways it could be ruined. The whole book focuses on Nancy Bui and Mark Lee, with the supporting roles of Bryan Truong, Vicki Kieu, and Oscar DeGaray. Although Vicki Kieu and Oscar DeGaray has no relation to do with Nancy Bui and Mark Lee, it still is a contribution to the idea of love. Joanne Vo and Dana Galindo has a minor role in the book but a major story line to support its role as love. Lowelyne Cadiz gets a dream come true as she gets asked by her longtime love but is not sure if she is even interested. As the story goes on people evolve from their love interest, including Hieu. Hieu is interested in a close friend, Thainha Pham. But it doesn't end in a happily ever after. The main focus of the book is the evolution that people have as they are younger and when they are older, they see the change in love interest and they want more, or sometimes want less.

Characters

Hieu Vo:
is a 13 year old boy who has many friends that are in many relationships. He is usually the person to observe the relationship and notices the flaws that some people don't want to notice. His former love interest is Thainha Pham.

Nancy Bui:
is Hieu's former love interest and Mark Lee's current love interest. She usually finds herself in the hatred of part of the relationship due to Mark's former relationships. She is also Hieu Vo, Vicki Kieu, and Lowelyne Cadiz's best friends.

Mark Lee:
is the manwhore of the school and current love interest is Nancy Bui. He is known for the beloved relationship with Joanne Vo.

Bryan Truong
is the former love interest of Nancy bui, and the new "it" guy of the year. He finds himself bitter rivals with his ex-best friend, Mark.

Vicki Kieu
is the naive girl of the story who hopes to find true love. She is the victim of former love interest Oscar Degaray and Christian Aguilar. She is also the current love interest of Wilson La.

Oscar Degaray

is Vicki's first true love and former love interest. He is often seen as Vicki's best friend.

Joanne Vo
is Mark Lee's beloved former love interest. They both are notable to popularity due to their infectious relationship.

Dana Galindo
is Hieu's misunderstood friend. Often mistaken as hardcore, she is a lady like person. Former love interest of Joeseph Valenzuela, and current love intterest of Johnny Guzman. Dana is used as the title of the book.

Lowelyne Cadiz
is Nancy Bui's, Hieu Vo's, and Vicki Kieu's best friend. She is the current love interest of Julius, but not quite there. She is often seen as Bryan Truong's best friend.

Thainha Pham
is Hieu's former love interest And Hieu's close friend.

Unusual Title
The title is based after Dana Galindo. She dressed up as Riding hood for Halloween and was in a relationship with Johnny Guzman. The title calls for the ups and downs that anyone could have, even the bold riding hood, as told in the first chapter of the book.

More than one tragic scene
The book is a non-fiction book based on Hieu's observations, but Hieu becomes one of them. Hieu's close grandfather passed away on the 19th of September the day his sister was going to enroll in college. The tragic date scars Hieu for life and finds himself not to love again. Yet he still continues to observe and find himself again, he does not seem his self again. Love and tragedy are both involved in the story, as Vicki Kieu's uncle also passed away which creates Vicki as a vulnerable person in the story.
