WhatsOn is an international media network founded by Sam Alim in 1994. WhatsOn produces print magazines and guides with a focus on multiculturalism and the student lifestyle. Their main offices are in Birmingham, London, New York City & Bangladesh. It publishes five guides throughout the year, The Student Guide, Music & Fashion Guide, The Pink Guide, The Gap Travel Guide & The Festival Guide, in addition to monthly magazines that are handed out free across the UK, USA & Bangladesh.
WhatsOn owned and operated Cafe One, Birmingham's first Fair Trade cafe, until 2008. Located at Five Ways, Birmingham, the building was eventually boarded up by Mars Pension Fund, who owned the building and others in the area, while staff from the cafe and magazine were still working inside. Following the closure of Cafe One, the magazine relocated to Moat street, in the city centre.
