West end state school

West End State School is a school in Brisbane, West End. The school teaches grades prep to grade seven, until the grade sevens are removed from the primary school enrollment system in 2015.
The school first opened on August 16th, 1875 with 236 pupils enrolled at the time. Now the school has almost 700.
During the second World war, school hours decreased ton just a few hours a day due to the fact that many of the teachers were involved in the Armed Forces. The oval was dug up and made into a slit trench in case of a bombing raid and students were issued with gas masks. Life was governed by restrictions on food, petrol and clothing.
In 1970, an additional block was built on the western end of the main building facing Hardgrave road and in 1974, the preschool opened. In the '80s, the major addition of a pool was added to the quickly growing school and in 1996, the Kurilpa Trail was created out the front.
