Welcome Camp

Welcome Camp
Welcome camp is a theme camp that has participated at Burning Man since 2007. Just like all other theme camps that participate at Burning Man, Welcome Camp is composed of a group of Burners that pool resources to provide activities and entertainment free of charge to attendees of Burning Man. This specific theme camp has been registered with Burning Man through its approval process that includes a questioner, explanation of activities, maps of the physical layout and a clean up plan so that it can provide a value added experience to attendees. Historically, activities at Welcome Camp has included open mic nights that provides a forum for any performer to express their talents to any of the 50,000 participants, happy hour which provides free alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks to attendees, and community mural projects that are created with the provided art supplies and a blank canvas at the beginning of the week that after 7 days, is covered in a collection of art work that is cut up and given back to the participants as gifting. The purpose of Welcome Camp is to provide an active theme camp centered around providing simple effective events that any , virgin to to lifers, can enjoy and hopefully enhance their Burning Man experience.
History
Although many of the members have been to Burning Man before 2007, this was the first year the name sake. The simple "Welcome" sign
was erected out of one of two geodesic domes. Currently, the camp is now marked by a collaboration art work in the form of the word "Welcome" constructed of metal, wood and el wire arched across the top of a 24 foot diameter geodesic dome. In 2008 the camp received a placement at the wheel and 2:45 next to the large Roller Disco Theme Camp. The camp has received placement for 2009 Evolution but has not received an address yet. The members of the theme camp live predominately in Reno, NV and Idaho. Ages range from 18 to 50, many time across generations of families.
