Wavedash

Wavedash is an advanced technique for the Super Smash Brothers Melee Nintendo game popularized by professional gamers, which consists in air-dodging diagonally toward the ground as close to the ground as possible, which will result in a movement that allows a player to make themselves slide across the ground therefore increasing maneuverability and speed, yet it is an abuse in the games physics which was later removed in the sequel Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Most noticeable Wavedashing can be seen in characters such as Luigi, Marth, Roy, Mewtwo, and Ice Climbers. You can also turn around more quickly by wavedashing in the opposite direction of your run, then picking up on the momentum.

Wavedashing differs with each character with each one giving you different results. Some cannot
wavedash at all, some go very far, some go very short. Some characters require a little lag before they can Wavedash because of there weight. You actually are leaving the ground, you just can't
see it.

Wavedash in Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Wavedashing in Super Smash Brothers Brawl was removed due to the change in the way the physics engine handles the air dodge, in that its direction is now determined by your airial path rather than a player's analog input. Landing traction upon hitting the ground in Brawl has been reduced considerably, romiving completely any exploitable movement options brought on by the previous game's mechanics.
