Waterlust is a social movement that began online on February 23, 2012 with the sole purpose of inspiring people to think about the importance of water in their lives. Initiated by Graduate Students of University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science as an experiment to use social media as a tool to engage a large audience about marine conservation, it has since evolved into a web-based community focused on publishing digital media that explores the question: "What does water mean to you?" Online media As of September 16, 2012, the group has produced and published six short films on youtube and vimeo. According to the Waterlust website, all films are shot using GoPro cameras. Waterlust relies on social media primarily through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram including usage of the hashtags #waterlust, #waterluster and #spreadthelust. The films cover a variety of subjects including rip current safety and shark conservation.
