Wall of Femmes

Wall of Femmes is a collective of feminists based in Montreal that aims to promote the recognition of both well-known and under-recognized women from diverse backgrounds. Relying on guerrilla tactics, members of the collective apply stencils and stickers of women the collective deems inspirational in heavily trafficked public spaces such as streets, sidewalks, and underpasses. With a focus on women whose actions have positively impacted other's lives, the collective aims to counter the prevalence of "negative, unhealthy, unattainable, sexist and/or objectified images of women."
History
The Wall of Femmes collective drew inspiration from the Queen of the Neighbourhood collective in New Zealand, who published a zine of simple black and white images of inspirational women.
Blog
The Wall of Femmes collective maintained a blog from 2010-14, which includes images of their applied stencils and stickers, as well as short articles featuring other inspiring women, and news the collective deems pertinent.<ref name=":1" />
