W. C. Pollard

William C. Pollard, Jr. (Born December 10, 1953) is an American writer.
Education
Pollard was raised just outside Topeka. He earned a BA degree (political/computer science) in 1976 from Washburn University, an MS (journalism) degree in 1979 from the University of Kansas, an AS degree (respiratory therapy) in 1995 from Washburn and a PhD (history) from Faith Baptist College & Seminary in 1997.
Personal Life
He was born December 10, 1953, in Topeka, Kansas. Pollard is married to Ritzel Pollard and has a daughter, Michelle.
Work and Professional History
Pollard worked from 1984 to 1994 for the State of Kansas as a researcher, computer programmer and technical writer. He worked for the Departments of Revenue and Transportation and the State Board of Education. He left state employment when the State outsourced a number of jobs to private employers. By then he had started working as a certified, and then registered, respiratory therapist in the Topeka and Lawrence areas.
Also, Pollard became active in the Kansas Authors Club and he founded the Topeka Civil War Society in 1995. The Civil War Society disbanded the next year, but Pollard held several offices in the Authors Club. He also wrote three books: Dark Friday: The Story of Quantrill's Lawrence Raid, 1990 (for which he received the 1992 Lyons HIstory Book Award from the Authors Club in 1992); A Short History of the Methodist Movement, 1992; A Career of Defiance: The Life of Ian Smith, 1992. He also received an Alfred M. Landon Historical Research Grant from the Kansas State Historical Society in 1993.
In 1997 Pollard moved to Poinciana, Florida, to practice respiratory therapy there. He became part owner of a computer repair business, which failed in 1998. He went back to respiratory full-time. Also, from 1999 to 2001 Pollard served on two local government committees, to which he was appointed.
In 2001 he moved to St. Albans, England, to study nursing. Due to visa problems, he returned to Florida in 2002. He settled in Avon Park, Florida, and has worked for Florida Hospital Heartland Division ever since in respiratory and since 2009 as a sleep technician. He became registered in sleep studies in 2010. He wrote Avoiding Work-at-Home Scams (2010), as well as numerous history and travel articles.
