Vonn

Vonn are a Norwegian doom metal band who have been tagged as "probably the world's most extreme doom metal band as of today" by doom-metal.com, the main online reference website dedicated to doom metal and all of its subgenres across the world. Formed in 2006 the band soon after released their debut album Victim One: Agony to positive reviews where it was heard.

Biography
Little is known about Vonn as the members choose to remain obscure, a practise employed by a number of extreme metal bands across the planet. With the only promotional shot of the band being very obscured, together with no reference to the full names of any of the members, it is suggested that only those within their local scenes may be aware of the actual identities of the musicians. It is widely known, however, that the band, based in and around Oslo, consists of members of other more established metal acts, including at least one member from Ireland who may also form part of one or more Norwegian metal acts.

Upon the release of Victim One: Agony the band were given opportunities to sign deals with a number of indie labels but refused to do so until they found a label that would fully conform to the band's outlook and artistic integrity. Despite the first limited run of Victim One: Agony being quickly deleted and a further pressing following suit, the band have continued to make it notoriously difficult to track down the recording.

Victim One: Agony loosely adheres to the funeral doom and drone music category in that it is predominantely slow and utilizes heavily distorted and downtuned guitars. However, the presence of a variety of mechanical samples throughout the recording, which is one track lasting 76:04 minutes, means that the album can also be given an industrial metal tag. Since the appearance of Vonn a new subgenre has begun to surface - that of torture doom, most probably referring to the vocal concept and story behind the release of Victim One: Agony, coupled with the unique and torturous nature of the music itself. While this term was first used in relation to Vonn it has since been applied to bands that have followed in the style of the Norwegian band. Even some already established bands who, unlike Vonn, choose to keep a relatively higher profile, have been tagged under this new subgenre.
