Volano chat

Volano Chat's first version was available on November 1st, 1997 and since has become a widely used chat application; it is a pure java client/server application. Volano chat was the the first chat software inductee into the Java Hall of Fame. The creator of Volano Chat, John Neffenger has since updated the version of Volano Chat, partly due to the intrusion of an infamous and renowned chatter known as DePeche MoDe, who would frequently find loop holes in the Volano Chat software parameters and exploit them. John eventually came out with Volano Chat Version 2.6, which curbed many hackers attempts at hijacking the site, and curbing DePeche MoDe's attempts at further flooding and ip spoofing.

Current Status

Other Volano-based chat servers are found at websites such as the American Psychiatric Association, American Osteopathic Association, American Society of Safety Engineers, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and the Exploratorium, San Francisco.
