Virtual Skies Network

Overview
Virtual Skies is a non-profit organisation which operates a real-time internet based network allowing people with the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004/X to fly with others as well as air traffic controllers to interact with them. Members are given a choice to fly online as either a pilot with Microsoft FS or to be an air traffic controller and direct traffic, all of which follow real world procedures. Virtual Skies tries to maintain a high level of bensim whilst also keeping the element of community and fun.
Services
Pilot & ATC
In order for Pilots & ATC to be able to interact the network relies on 3 components:
# FSInn (Pilot Client) created by MCDU
# Radar Simulation Program(s)
* ProController (Radar Simulation Program)
* Virtual Desktop Controller (Radar Simulation Program) created by VSD
* Euroscope created by Gergely Csernak
# FSD Server created by Marty Bouchane (first release mid '90s) developed & maintained by VSD
Virtual Airlines & Members
Virtual Skies logs all session movements allowing members and VAs to easily at any time access any information of any previous sessions they have conducted allowing for in-depth analysis of session elements such as altitude & airspeed along a route (for a VA) or how quickly an ATC handled an aircraft. By logging this information members can browse through their information on their profile or restricted information on other members; Virtual Airlines however once registered are given access to the API allowing them to retrieve this data into their website for statistical purposes.
Membership & Structure
In order to use the network a user must first join as a member which is free; however members must be at least 13 years of age otherwise written parental consent must be provided. Once registered, a member can request training or jump onto the live network and fly or control.
As a controller you must have an Induction Session whereby the mentor will assess how much training you need and a program of which it is to be completed. Pilots do not require training before flying however it is available if there is a member who would like to have training.
Virtual Skies Network is run by a Board of Directors and a Network Committee (consisting of Region & Country Managers).
