The Virginia Scots Guards Pipes and Drums was founded in 2007. Located in Richmond, Virginia the Virginia Scots Guards is an active performance band with a community focus. The band is one of the only organizations providing bagpipe and scottish style drumming instruction in the Richmond area. The Virginia Scots Guards is comprised of numerous experienced musicians some of which are members of honor bands such as the Northern Virginia Firefighters' Emerald Society Pipe Band .
The Virginia Scots Guards is a regimental band modeled after the historic Scots Guards. The pipers wear the Black Watch tartan and the drummers wear the Black Stewart tartan.
Members of the Virginia Scots Guards performed for President George W. Bush as members of the honor guard at the 2007 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
Members performed as the opening act for Rod Stewart May 5, 2007 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The band is under the direction of Pipe Major Dave Hinton, Drum Major Roscoe Porter, Drum Major Chris "Shooter" Corcoran, and Field Marshall Gene Lastfogel.
