Vettinjayathil () is a renowned Nair family, which was a part of Central Travancore, in Tiruvalla taluk of Pathanamthitta district in Kerala. Position in society The family possessed abundant land in Kallooppara & Thrikkunnappuzha villages. The family ancestors lent their hands to "Edappally Swaroopam", the crowned heads at that time for controlling law & order, tax collection etc. Later, "Edappally Thampuraan" expanded their monarchy to Paippad, Kallooppara and Chengaroor. Thampuraan was very much impressed with the family ancestors and made them the land lords and called them as "Panickers". Etymology The term Vettinjayam is derived from the Malayalam words vetti and njayam (vetti means to cut by a sword and njayam (nyayam), justice). That means the family members have the power to enforce the law by using a sword also.
