Vasily Pestun is a physics professor at IHES. From 2011 to 2014, he was a the School of the Natural Sciences at the Institute for Advanced Study. From 2008 to 2011 he was a Harvard Junior Fellow. He defended his doctoral thesis in 2008 under the supervision of Edward Witten. His research focuses on the strong coupling regime of supersymmetric gauge theories and conformal field theories. He has been particularly interested in applications of the technique of supersymmetric localization. This technique has produced new results in supersymmetric quantum gauge theories in loop spaces, such as the proof of conjectures due to Erickson-Semenoff-Zarembo and Drukker-Gross.
