Vanessa Ford (born 11 April) is a Canadian model, actress, and HIV/AIDS activist. Career Ford was first endorsed by NAM Models when she was 14 years old. She has since modeled with Elite (Asia) and Wilhelmina (NY) and is currently signed with Base Models (Capetown). She has done advertisements for Rocawear, Ralph Lauren, Nivea, D2Squared and has appeared in magazines such as Trace, Elle (South Africa), Gentleman’s Option (Italy) and was on the May 2010 cover of Stilo Magazine. Her photo also won the America’s Next Top Model's Jay Manuel photo competition for makeup, accepted by makeup artist Ivy Lam. She has appeared in commercials for McDonald's, Burger King, and Coca Cola and has appeared in episodes of a Canadian TV series, Drop the Beat. Ford first became personally aware of the magnitude of the HIV/AIDS epidemic while doing a runway show for the MAC Cosmetics AIDS Fund and being exposed to many HIV/AIDS-affected people in the fashion industry. She then decided to pursue university studies in Toronto and Singapore focusing on biology and infectious diseases. She is presently doing her masters at Oxford University. As an HIV/AIDS activist, she has traveled worldwide and has worked with many international humanitarian organizations, notably Dignitas International, the UN, ICA Canada, the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS, and the World Health Organization. Ford was named an Oxfam Youth Partner and a is a member of Rotaract International. She has co-produced a documentary and continues to remain active in the world of film and modeling. Personal life Ford grew up in Mississauga and Oakville, suburbs of Toronto, Ontario Canada. Her parents are from Treasure Beach, Jamaica. She is a cousin of Malcolm Gladwell who is also a descendant of the Ford family from St.Elizabeth, Jamaica.
