V. V. Ranganathan

Vellore Venkatakrishnan Ranganathan, known as V.V.Ranganathan (informally, Ranga or VVR ) is an Indian business man, a Chartered Accountant with 30 years of varied experience in India and overseas.
Early life
He was born into a Kerala Brahmin family in Calicut, India in December 1952, attended Sree Rama Varma High School, and graduated in 1973 with a degree in commerce from the Sacred Heart College, then affiliated to the University of Kerala. He then obtained articled training with Fraser & Ross, now part of Deloittes, and received membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. In early 1978 he served Fraser & Ross for about a year as a paid assistant before taking up a job in Bihar in eastern India.
Corporate Profile
He left India in 1980 to work in their Kuwait East office of Arthur Young, an international professional services firm. In 1996, he joined Ernst & Young the international accounting firm. He served the firm in India for about 10 years in various capacities, eventually becoming Senior Partner. He left the firm in 2006 to focus on social and entrepreneurial ventures.
He advises independent directors and corporate boards. His Ten Rules for Independent Directors is often used as a guide by the director’s community.
Entrepreneurship
In 2006 he co-founded Compassites Ventures as an ideation and incubation enterprise that supports beginning entrepreneurs. He is the Executive Chairman of Compassites Ventures which has successfully supported the creation of many new entrepreneurial ventures in the last five years.
In 2006 he co-founded Pinnacle Opportunities which assists social entrepreneurs to improve their capacity and gain accreditation to deliver more. It also assists corporate entities to engage in corporate social responsibility programs. In 2008, he co-founded Rural Shores, a BPO that fosters economic activities in rural India. It has business process centres in 6 remote locations in rural India. In 2010, together with William C. Miller, formerly head of Innovation Management at the , he co-founded Values Centered Innovation as a business entity in India.
He is a trustee and a member of the governing board of Bharti Foundation (Airtel), founded by .Sunil Mittal. The foundation operartes 236 Satya Bharti Schools in rural India.
Awards
He was one of the 31 contributors to the book Leading with Wisdom The book is based on a research program initiated by The Global Dharma Center , in partnership with Peter Pruzan , professor emeritus at the Copenhagen Business School and his wife Kirsten Pruzan Mikkelsen , a journalist.

Personal life
In 1986, he married Geetha, a Master in Science from Avinashilingam College in Coimbatore. They have a son, Arjun.
