V. Curtis Watkins

Vernon Curtis Watkins (born November 13, 1977), was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. He currently resides in one of Charlotte's oldest neighborhoods, the Wilmore Community, where he is an active member of the Wilmore Neighborhood Association serving on the board of directors.
Early Life
Watkins, after being born in Charlotte, moved at a very young age to Salisbury NC until the age of 10, after which he moved to Fredericksburg VA. He attended Brooke Point High School in Stafford VA, and after graduation attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he graduated with a B.S in Business Administration in 2001.
Career
After finishing his studes at VCU in 2001, Watkins moved back to Charlotte NC where his brother Paul Watkins had just started a start up software company called MobileHWY. Starting with just the two of them, Watkins helped grow the company where they achieved such accolades as winning 2 Charlotte Chamber Blue Diamond awards for 'Best Use of Technology' and 'Early Stage Company'. After helping the company grow to up to 50 employees and moving into offices in the South Park area, MobileHWY was sold to Iron Data of Atlanta in 2007. After the sale, Watkins resigned and left MobileHWY in May of 2007.
Watkins then moved into a contracting role working at Duke Energy. His focus from 2007 was developing tools and processes for Duke's Energy Efficiency programs, which Watkins still works on today.
Family Life
On May 16, 2009 Watkins married Vatsla Kohli in a ceremony at their church, Grace Covenant Church. They are currently married with no children.
Community Work
Watkins has volunteered for a number of local organizations, including serving food at a local food bank and providing services/supplies to the local humane society. Watkins also serves as a mentor to troubled youth through his church program 'Faith, Hope, and Love'.
In 2009, Watkins worked with Rep. Sue Myrick's office to start an Energy Task Force, with the intent on helping recognize Charlotte as an innovative Energy City and to help create energy jobs utilizing Charlotte's extensive resources of good talent, strong companies, and natural resources.
