Founder AND History
Dr. Charles Tafton, a New York businessman and Bryce McDonald, an Australian publisher. opened Upper State New York University USNYU in 1984. Although their vision was global, their start was modest with only 36 students. Their high teacher/student ratio let them perfect new distance learning teaching methodologies. Their development of modular neuro-semantic learning models, NSLM™ resulted in high course completion rates by students. The student body in (2009) was limited by charter to 500 students. These comprise a collection of talented minds consisting of the following: North American students 24%, South American students 7%, European students 18%, Middle Eastern students 9%, Asian students 21%, African students 8% and Australian students 13%. USNYU has educated students from virtually every country in the world in a broad range of disciplines. Notwithstanding the wide range of student nationalities. UNSYU has at all times focused on a small number of students in order to maintain the highest quality education possible. The result is a personalized education experience for each student.
Challenges
The university started running into financial problems when the enrollment count for the school started dropping drastically beginning in 2003. Upper State New York University tried to remain competitive, however they broke news in January 2008 that the university was filing for bankruptcy.
