Ukrainian Internet Exchange

The Ukrainian Internet exchange(UA-IX) is an Internet exchange point in Kiev, Ukraine. It is owned by Ukrainian Internet Association and has 101 participants (March 2010) that cover 7 oblasts of Ukraine. As of March 2010 the weekday throughput passes the 110 Gbit/s mark. Creation of the network made it possible for its participants to considerably reduce expenditures and broaden the possibilities of small businesses.
The network helps ensure the stability of the Ukrainian internet market because it has two points for the exchange of internet traffic. Also, with the increasing spread of high-speed internet providers in Ukraine, and while foreign traffic is considerably expensive ($0.01 to $0.1 per MB), some of the providers don't take money for Ukrainian traffic at all, and others price local much lower than foreign traffic. In its volume, significance and sphere of network activity, this is a unique enterprise in Ukraine.
